How safe is Laser Hair Removal?

How many sessions will I need?
While many clients notice a visible difference after just one or two treatments, it typically takes around 6 to 10 sessions to reach optimal hair reduction. Treatments are spaced out every 4 to 8 weeks, depending on how your hair responds. As the hair becomes less and less with each session, the time between appointments gradually increases to give the remaining hair a chance to grow.
Does Laser Hair Removal hurt?
The machine I use at The She Shed is called a SMARTDiode. The manufacturer themselves advertises Laser Hair Removal as ‘virtually pain free’.
It really varies from person to person. Some clients feel nothing at all, some feel a gentle warmth, while others describe the sensation as a bit prickly or slightly sensitive — but not painful.
The SMARTDiode machine has integrated cooling technology which offers extra comfort throughout each session.

How does Laser Hair Removal work?
The light from the laser penetrates the skin and is absorbed by the melanin (pigment) in your hair follicles. This light energy is then converted to heat energy which travels down the hair shaft and heats the follicle at the base. The heat damages the follicle which prevents future hair growth from that follicle.

Can you treat pregnant women?
There is no definitive science to prove it is dangerous but it is generally advised best that laser hair removal is not carried out on women who are pregnant or breastfeeding. Pregnancy and breastfeeding also change the hormone balance and this can sometimes affect hair growth so it’s best to wait.

Is there anyone Laser Hair Removal won’t work on?
The laser cannot detect red pigment or the colour white. If you have red (true ginger) or white hair it is unlikely we will see results.
